Album Review by EDF
Compilation albums can be a bit hit and miss at times. You have the standard genre compilations and then you have ones that represent a club that you might not have even heard of before. This one is an exception as it is both interesting and spectacular.
With the Old Truman Brewery as its base, a group of entrepreneurs turned the site into a club of sorts, naming it the Vibe Bar. While its main purpose is to highlight experimental music, the club became a success but did not lose its credibility. The likes of Madonna, Bjork, Liam Gallagher and Paul Oakenfold have sought out the bar, have had high profile parties hosted there and recently featured the controversial Bodyworks Exhibition. This collection features tracks from DJ’s and producers who have played at the bar.
With a mix of styles to choose from, we have the funk dance of Key Recordings’ BUBBLIN and Tutto Matto’s TAKE MY HAND, the electro Rob Mello with FANTASIZE and Winstone Chimes & Sweet Left Peg’s STONE THING to the Balearic Paddu Varano’s BACK TO YOU and the Latin funk SANTERIA from Los Chicharrons. There are dance tracks featured as well from BRAZIU EXPLOSION, HUBERT HUDSON and the more Latin flavoured G-CLUB.
As for the experimental tracks, BABY MAMMOTH sorts us out with the David Lynchian sounding AND I’LL SEE YOU. Overall, each track on this release is a 12” version so they do go on a bit but if that does not bother you, than you could do a lot worse than buying this album and blasting it out into the summer air.
