On 25 June 2007, Dame Shirley Bassey celebrated her seventieth year with the release of her first new full album for almost 10 years, GET THE PARTY STARTED which she will showcase as part of her set at this year’s Glastonbury Festival where she is due to perform for the first time in her 50 year career.
The album GET THE PARTY STARTED combines new recordings, new vocals and remixes of classic tracks including Big Spender, You Only Live Twice, I Will Survive, the brilliant new single The Living Tree and of course the brilliant title track. Due to massive public demand, this incredible new album features Dame Shirley Bassey’s absolutely fantastic newly recorded version of Pink’s Get The Party Started recently featured in Marks & Spencers spectacular pre-Christmas TV advertising campaign.
GET THE PARTY STARTED – The Album features 13 superb new remixed and re-worked tracks by some of today’s most contemporary producers making the album a must have for music fans young and old.
Amongst the incredible recordings are the fantastic new versions of Big Spender, I Who Have Nothing and I Will Survive by producers Chuck Norman and Bob Kraushaar aka NorthxNorthwest whose remixes include Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams and Peter Gabriel. In addition there’s the awesome remix of the Grace Jones Slave To The Rhythm from The Glimmers, whilst super producer Mark de Clive-Lowe has remixed the classic You Only Live Twice.
Also to be found on the Get The Party Started album is a wicked new version of What Now My Love from uber cool remix collective Bugz In the Attic aswell as Brazilian remix supreme Bruno-e’s version of Where Is the Love, Restless Soul’s outstanding new remix treatment of Kiss Me Honey, Mungolian Jet Set’s fantastic re-working of Can I Touch You There, whilst former Nomad Soul/Soul II Soul producer Dobie completely transforms Lionel Ritchie’s worldwide smash hit Hello.
This incredible album project spearheaded by Dame Shirley Bassey sees her working with songwriting partners Catherine Feeney and Nikki Lamborn, who co-wrote the beautiful Bassey neo-classic The Living Tree and produced title track Get The Party Started.
Catherine and Nikki make up London-based band, Never The Bride who originally approached the Dame about the possibility of recording The Living Tree last summer. The duo had recorded their version of the song, but convinced Dame Shirley it was right for her during a trip to Monte Carlo (where the legendary singer now lives). A chance encounter with the Dame in the gym of a 5 star hotel in the city led to Dame Shirley Bassey hearing and falling in love with the song and agreeing to record it.
Catherine Feeney of Never the Bride who co-wrote the song with Nikki Lamborn said: “Recording The Living Tree with Dame Shirley was a day to remember. She arrived at the studio, complete with a jar of honey to sooth her throat after a performance the night before, an IPod for her vocal warm up exercises and of course her wonderful voice, what a Dame! We’re honoured to be working with this truly unique artist who has inspired generations”.
In a career spanning more than 50 years, Dame Shirley Bassey has sold millions of records worldwide and has spent more weeks in the charts than any other British female recording artist. Her previous hits include classics such as I Who Have Nothing, Big Spender, Something, Light My Fire and History Repeating, as well as the unforgettable Bond themes Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever.
