Single Review by Mark Bayross
While we wait for The Prodigy to release their new album and remind the Manchilds of this world who’s boss, we have HELL’S KITCHEN, the debut solo album from scary-eyed Prodigy MC Maxim to look forward to. After the fantastic CARMEN QUEASY single, SCHEMING offers another taster of what’s going to be on the album.
It is a very different beast from CARMEN QUEASY. This time around, the vocals are provided by Trina Allen, and offer a melodic and sweetly Caribbean contrast to the dirty funk beats. It’s not a million miles from bits of Massive Attack’s “Protection” album – modern and urban, with a late night vibe.
It comes backed by remixes by Zed Bias and Blood Of Abraham, alongside the very Prodigy (guitars meet beats and cut-up vocals) PRISM. Liam Howlett co-wrote and co-produced it, so it should keep Prodigy fans happy.
HELL’S KITCHEN is out at the beginning of October. Sounds like it’s going to be good, varied fun.
