Album Review by EDF
Do you like happy albums, with a sing-a-long chorus to compliment each song on the album? Maybe you are the type of person that likes to get up and dance to care free songs that will take you away from everyday life. If so, then forget it. This album is not for you.
Hobotalk is fronted by Marc Pilley who also composes the bands songs. Listening to this album and trying to do a review is actually difficult because it is very hard for this reviewer to take this album seriously. What might the problem be?
Well, first of all this sounds like it came straight from the 70’s. Although mostly acoustic this has a James Taylor West Coast feel to the songs. The country style vocals with references to ‘trailer parks’, ‘Huck Finn’, ‘lonely nights’ and best of all ‘country roads and city streets’ have been done before in the past and too many times at that.
Although saying all that the best tracks on the album are WALKS WITH ME and MOTION PICTURE SCARECROW, check them out if you can. While this album is easy on the ears, you get the feeling that Marc Pilley has better songs hidden away under his cowboy hat. While fans of this album might disagree with me and I do not blame them for that, I look forward to their next album, so long as Pilley drops all those American references and write songs about his native Scotland.
