Ripped off – sorry based around – a tune from soft rock legends Journey, Parisian-born DJ Chrome, otherwise known as Space Cowboy (and Nic Dresti to his Ma), has released his Miami-approved WHO’S CRYING NOW on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label.
Actually it’s a pretty infectious tune and all the club-friendly elements are there – rousing female vocals, swooping strings, funky guitar and thumping piano – obviously without an ounce of originality. As usual, there are remixes aplenty, although only Terpsichord try anything different with their squelchy bass / trance hybrid.
There’s also a new track here – the wonderfully self-explanatory FUTURE IS RETRO, which sounds like Kraftwerk and New Order competing for naffest tune on bontempi keyboards.
By the way, this is not the first time DJ Chrome has had a hit in the UK – as Space Cowboy, he released ROUND & ROUND and I WOULD DIE 4 U on his mentor Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fired imprint; and his tracks WILDSTYLE and HAZEL (as DJ Supreme and Loop Da Loop respectively) both made the charts.
I’d expect this to do the same.
