Single Review by Mark Bayross
The can-do-no-wrong Basement Jaxx have released this as the third single off this year’s critically-acclaimed “Remedy” album. It’s a pretty manic ragga tune with some satisfyingly squelchy acid noises and high-pitched whistles. Unsurprisingly, it has gone down a storm in the clubs this year.
The second track, “La Photo” combines some garage-y bass with some Massive Attack-style fades and an array of bizarre clicks and bleeps over the top. It’s also sung in French by Dimitri and Pegy from Paris.
Finally, “I Beg U” is a Cuban-flavoured Latino ass-shaker (what isn’t these days?) with some more wheezy noises and vocal samples over a looped piano. It sounds like it could accompany a steamy night in Miami, so I guess that means it does the job.
Not bad for a single ā the band haven’t limited themselves to one musical style and the whole shebang reminds me a bit of Daft Punk. On the strength of this, I’d advise you to check out the album. I will.
