Becky Sharp Crawley (Reese Witherspoon) is enjoying the ball with her husband Colonel Rawdon Crawley (James Purefoy). While at the ball Captain George Henry Osborne (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) attempts to hit on Becky. However, the ball is interrupted by an announcement that the enemy is approaching and they will march to battle in a few hours.
