Finally it has happened, JASON GOES TO HELL. Well, according to the title, this is for now ‘the final Friday’ movie.
Starting off with a pretty young thing going to a cabin by the lake (don’t these people ever watch the news), Jason eventually stalks her and she flees the cabin. So far nothing different from the other movies but this time Jason’s time is up. The young woman actually works for the army and lures Jason into a trap where he is blown to bits, leaving just his heart intact which keeps beating for a few seconds longer and then just stops.
As Jason’s body is being examined at the morgue, the medical examiner notes that the heart is twice the size of a normal heart. Investigating it closer, the heart starts beating again and entices the examiner to eat the heart, which allows Jason’s spirit to enter the examiner’s body.
So Jason lives but for how long. We find Jason jumping from body to body and sometimes it becomes a guessing game as to which body Jason’s in. The storyline attempts to inject a bit more background about what Jason’s motives are and just like NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 6, it’s all about family.
There are a few tense moments during the movie and the usual horror movie cliches are all here such as the geek type character that turns into the hero and teenagers being slaughtered by Jason during sex. The gore is over the top, gross and shocking. If it were anything less, then it would be a disappointment. The most refreshing thing about JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY is that you end up wondering what the fuss was about with the SCREAM trilogy.
As for the DVD Extra Features, all you get is a trailer and an essay about the FRIDAY THE 13TH saga.
