RECONSTITUTED is Melbourne Australia’s Apell (Anthony Pell’s) third solo release, and it follows 2004’s BEAVER STREET & BEYOND.
Using drum and bass to cover Neil Young and helping to chill out George Harrison’s Long, Long, Long while quoting some of George Dubya’s inane and ridiculous quotes, Apell spans and criss-crosses musical genres on this solid, creative and well thought out third release.
We can hear the influence that Tricky and Massive Attack have here and can sense the importance that Radiohead and Hendrix have played on this guy’s musical evolution.
When we get into the world of Coltrane and Miles Davis we start to understand while this music has been referenced as “electronically charged jazz”.
For me, this is perfect Friday night (after a long week at work) cooking music. It is something that is the perfect accompaniment to a glass of wine while making dinner and hoping to unwind from the week that was. I struggle to remember the last time I heard an album that was this easy to listen to. Check it out, it is well worth your while.
