Single Review by Mark Bayross
The second single from HOMESONGS is one of the album’s more immediate tracks, although it doesn’t exactly deviate from the electronica-meets-folk guitars subtlety of the rest of his work. There’s a bit of a U2-by-the-campfire sound to it, which is a good thing.
Both the CD single and 7” formats have an extra three tracks, making this more of an EP and thoroughly good value for Adem fans. Neither FRIENDS, BEWARE nor the self-explanatory WAKE UP LULLABY hold any surprises, but the closing LET ME GIVE YOU A REASON at least offers something distinctive with its unsettling ‘Wicker Man’ vibe.
Different shades of “ssshh…” maybe, but still holds the attention.
