Album Review by EDF
Wow, this is a breath of fresh air. This three piece from Kington in the UK are made up of Evelyn Downing on vocals, flute and guitar, Jamie Field on guitars and bass and Andrew Garman on keyboards, bass and drums. This unlikely trio have managed to produce an album of rare emotional quality. Within, the songs sound sparse but are filled with such warmth and tuneful harmonies that one could easily drift off to Mermaid Kiss’ world.
The opening track MERMAID KISS oozes full of desire and want and makes what most other artists are producing seem insignificant. BREATHING UNDER WATER floats the listener away on a watery journey while BLIND tries to shut out all that is wrong with the world. SOUNDCHASER showcases Evelyn Downing’s dramatic interpretation and is reminiscent of Kate Bush from a long time ago. THIS FEELING features a flute intro worthy of Jethro Tull and progresses into a lushful tune filled with great imagery. The group show off their versatility on track 13, which is consequently called THIRTEEN and is sung in French. By the time you reach the end of the album, you will find yourself looking forward to listening to it again.
