Single Review by Mark Bayross
Taken from his recent Two Tone-inspired album OUTLAW, RAP STARR is a typically humorous cut from Leigh Stephen Kenny, as he describes in engagingly self-deprecating fashion his upbringing in the suburbs of 1980s Leeds.
Name-checking heroes from Dylan to The Clash, Run DMC to De La Soul, Kenny paints an endearing picture of a daydreaming young lad practising in front of the mirror, “hairbrush mic” in hand. It’s a far cry from the pathetic macho posturing of the more chart-friendly elements of British rap, and for that LSK should be commended.
