Album Review by Nigel A. Messenger
You would have to be half asleep not to guess from the title of the album that the theme of this double CD collection of tracks is …’love’. Featuring a wide variety of songs old and new it’s obviously intended, giving the timing of the release, to be an ideal gift for romantic people to give at Valentine’s Day together with a bottle of Chanel No 5 perfume and a dozen red roses.
But what would it say about your musical taste?
There are tracks from artists diverse as Dido, Elton John, Boyzone, Hear’say and Frank and Nancy Sinatra. I could go on – there are 40 songs altogether. So will you intended love slave be feeling romantic or just want to throw up after sticking these silver discs in the CD player? I’d guess they might stick their head straight in the toilet if they have any musical taste.
Ok, I do like NATALIE IMBRUGLIA’s ‘Torn’, and the BANGLES’ ‘Etrenal Flame’ – but 2 tracks out of 40! Out of all the love songs in existence couldn’t they have come up with some less cheesy picks for the selection.
You might do better if you take a few seconds to think of an artist that your partner, or intended partner, actually likes then buying an album by that artist that they don’t have so getting the reaction, ‘Oh I’ve been wanting to get that for ages – how thoughtful’.
Either that or drop in at your local lingerie shop or expensive jeweller’s depending on how rich you are and ask the attractive assistant for a date. But that might be missing the point!
