Album Review by EDF
How does a young singer survive the cutthroat music business without going out of fashion? With more lives then a cat, Kylie has seen pop wannabes come and go with only Madonna just barely hanging in there. This double CD collection is thankfully split into sections; CD1 has all of that Stock, Aiken and Waterman nonsense, while CD2 features all of the post S.A.W. tracks. Okay not all of it was nonsense. The compilers were clever enough to start off CD 1 with the decent BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW and then must have fell of their chairs laughing by making that awful cover of THE LOCO-MOTION as the second track. The only other song to take note of is SHOCKED and that’s all I’ve got to say about the first CD.
The second CD in this collection starts off with I BELIEVE IN YOU, which just highlights how far Kylie has come. Followed by CAN’T GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD, you know that you are heading off to pop heaven. Included here are the mid-90’s tracks that were quite good but not a lot of people noticed tracks such as CONFIDE IN ME and the Nick Cave duet, WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW. Other songs to take note of are the Spanish influenced, PLEASE STAY and PUT YOURSELF IN MY PLACE but please ignore the lame attempt at rock on DID IT AGAIN. The second CD is the one that cool people will put on at parties while the first one is for closet fans and geeks only. This would have gotten higher marks only for that the first CD lets this collection down.
