Single Review by Mark Bayross
The second single to be taken from JJ72’s impressive second album I TO SKY is ALWAYS AND FOREVER, re-recorded by John Leckie (The Stone Roses, The La’s), giving it a slightly more jangly, less epic, feel.
Much as its predecessor FORMULAE was a celebration of the mundane things in life, ALWAYS AND FOREVER finds Mark Greaney rejoicing the comforts of home and the idea of there being a heaven (ideas which are presumably connected in his mad, Dublin muso mind).
The single comes across two CDs and a limited edition 7”, backed with a number of tracks – new song DOG, a live version of CITY, a session version of NAMELESS, a cover of Chris Isaak’s WICKED GAME, and the John Hillcoat-directed video.
It’s a conservative choice of single, and as such, is not representative of the wonderful album from which it is taken, but is well worth investigating for the extra tracks.
