Movie Review by Nigel A. Messenger
Starring: Jet Li, Jason Statham, Devon Aoki, Luis Guzmán, Andrea Roth, John Lone
Director: Philip G Atwell
With a title like WAR you might be forgiven for thinking this was some kind of military story. It’s not, but there are plenty of guns, fighting and all round action in this picture.
Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) is an FBI agent whose partner is killed by legendary hitman Rogue (Jet Li). A few years later while Jack Crawford is working to bring down Yakuza and Triad gangs in the US, Rogue resurfaces and for some reason is setting up each side to start a gang war.
Jason Statham and Jet Li are clearly the two big star names of this picture, but although Jet Li is better known for his on screen martial arts skills it’s actually Statham who seems to get more of the action and he does it very well too.
WAR is a very good action movie and I really have no criticisms of the film at all. Both its stars turn in good performances and there is a very neat twist that’s revealed towards the end which I actually didn’t see coming. I was also surprised by the final scene because although it does end the movie it also leaves the doors wide open for a sequel which I hope gets made to the standard this one achieves.
