In the year 3028 Earth is at war with the Drej’s and the humans are losing. As the Drej’s make their final attack on the planet a young boy Cale is put on to one of the escaping spacecraft by his father who gives him a ring and tells his son that as long as he wears this ring humanity will one day be saved. As Cale lifted clear of the planet he sees his father lift off in a huge spacecraft, the Titan, and disappear into deep space.
The Drej then make their final attack on Earth firing a massive energy weapon completely destroying the planet. Cale’s spaceship disappears into deep space along with thousands of their ships full of humans scattering throughout the universe.
All this takes place within the first 10 minutes of the movie, the story picking up 15 years later with Cale grown up and living on an asteroid space station populated by a variety of aliens.
Believing he has been abandoned by everyone except for his guardian who his father left him with as a child, his life is interrupted by a ship docking at the station captained by Joe Korso who has been looking for Cale for years, as Cale is unknowingly the key to the existence of humanity. It is up to Cale to find the Titan which his father has hidden, destroy the Drej and finally reunite the scattered survivors of the human race.
Titan A E is an amazing film, because it creates excitement and holds the viewers attention using animation and CGI effects equally as well as any film made with real actors. It’s got an exciting storyline, ok it’s a little ‘Star Wars’ like but so what, and one or two nice little plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat. You get involved with the characters just the way you would with any other movie, the only problem is, how can you lust after drawings of people, sex appeal is the only thing missing.
Just because it’s animation doesn’t mean it’s for kids. Sure they would enjoy it but this is made for adults as well. I can easily see Titan A E spawning a sequel or even a series, here’s hoping. Oh yes, it’s also got a killer soundtrack!
